Diabetes Threatens Those Who Suffered Sleep Deprivation

Posted by Shisuka Thursday, December 31, 2009 0 comments

Lack of sleep for three days can dramatically reduce the body's ability to manage glucose which increases the risk of diabetes.

Researchers from the University of Chicago found that lack of sleep for three consecutive days can reduce glucose even in young adults healthy. This effect can be synchronized with the weight gain of 8-13 pounds.

Decreasing the body's ability to manage glucose due to chronic sleep deprivation, -especially for those who are elderly and obesity- play a role in the development of diabetes, according to the researchers concluded.

Restless Legs

Have you ever seen your spouse feet suddenly "flutter" when he was asleep, and the next morning he complained of pain and cramps? And the problem is not just the symptoms, but the risk incurred.

The people with Restless Legs Syndrome, or RLS, having risk to get stroke or heart attack two times higher than those who are not sufferers. And this risk increases for those who suffered most common and most severe symptoms, according to research published in the journal Neurology.

RLS is a disease with symptoms of an unnatural movement that causes uncomfortable sensations in one leg when he was not active, such as when he is sleeping. Things alleged to be the cause of this problem, including hormones and lack of specific ions. If he drinks calcium and magnesium but it did not reduce the activity of the feet when he sleeps, it is a good idea to contact your doctor immediately.

Skin Cancer Medicine from Kangaroo

Posted by Shisuka Saturday, December 19, 2009 0 comments

Beside funny and unique, kangaroo is useful for patients with skin cancer. Kangaroos State scientists from Australia said that the animal has potential to prevent DNA damage associated with many cases of skin cancer in humans.

The researchers at Melbourne University are investigating whether the DNA repair enzyme found in animals can provide an example for the prevention of this DNA damage.

"Several other research teams have proposed 'dream cream' contains a DNA repair enzyme that you can apply on the skin after a day under the sun," said Linda Feketeova, a scientist. "We are currently examining whether this is feasible to be produced by examining the chemical content behind a DNA repair system."

Feketeova and his partner, Uta Wille, in collaboration with scientists at the University of Innsbruck in Austria, are investigating whether human DNA is damaged by the sun can be improved by using the example of a kangaroo. By using Spectrometer instrument, they will simulate the impact caused by kangaroos enzyme in the DNA that would develop a skin cancer.

"We were very surprised that the DNA repair process also resulted in a number of chemical byproducts, which have never been seen before," said Wille.
"Our plan is to learn all these products in order to understand whether the DNA repair enzymes can be harmonized into a safe method and effective for the prevention of skin cancer," he said.

The specific repaired enzymes in kangaroos, which also occurs in some bacteria and fish, provide additional protection for their skin which is not owned by

Let’s Eat Right for Your Health

Posted by Shisuka Monday, December 14, 2009 0 comments

Even though we know about good nutrition, and how to upgrade our diet program, we are not actually putting the advice into practice. But, it may be necessary if we follow the advice. So, let’s eat right for your health by following below advice, such as:
• Good grains
Pass on bread-banning plans. Cutting carbs long-term may raise your risk for colon cancer, scientists at the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen, Scotland, say. Dieters who restrict their intake of whole grains and fruit have lower levels of fatty acid, butyrate, which kills cancer cells. Make sure your diets include plenty of whole grains, fruit and vegetable.
• Not so fast
Convenience foods may be anything but. People who make prepackaged dinners spend as much time in the kitchen as those who cook from scratch, researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles say.
Ready-made meals also tend to be less nutritious than those made fresh.
• Dairy defense
Drinking two cups of milk a day may lower your risk for heart disease or stroke by 15 percent, notes a study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Pour skin to save saturated fat.
• Cheaters win
Nearly all dieters have cravings, but they do not always have to ignore them to reach their goal weight. Women who lost the most pounds sometimes splurged on treats, a study in the International Journal of Obesity reports. However, do not consider this news a ticket to overindulge, women who gave in more frequently lost less. Keep treats under control with a food diary.
• Fabulous folate
Munching on folate-rich foods may cut the risk for pancreatic cancer by about 60 percent in normal-weight women, a study in Cancer Research reveals. Not so for those taking folate supplements, which actually raised their risk. Skip the pill; go for raw greens such as spinach.
• Meal math
The more you’re served, the more you eat. When researchers at Penn State University in University Park gave normal-sized meals for 11 days, then supersized them by 50 percent, dinner ate 423 more calories per day. If your eating has started to get off track, try this trick to curb calories: Eat two bites of veggies for every one of a main course and you’ll feel full.

Diabetes Is a Killer

Posted by Shisuka Monday, November 16, 2009 0 comments

Learning to deal with diabetes is never easy. It is bad enough we have to live in a greed-based world filled with confusion, violence, media junk, and so on. Still, those with diabetes can live healthy providing they adhere to diet, medications and exercise. Diabetes is a serious condition. The disease is the mother of all disease in the world and it is a killer.

What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease that you can get if you do not eat right or take care of your body. Genetics play a part in diabetes as well. In fact, hereditary is a hard cause of the problem. The disease can cause blindness. The disease can lead to amputation of legs, or feet. Diabetes is a disease that when your body does not produce enough insulin to break down sugar in the bloodstream. Diabetes includes two types, yet various levels are considered. Diabetes includes Diabetes Insipidus and Mellitus.

The first diabetes is where your body is incapable of producing enough insulin to do what its supposed to do. This type of diabetes is treatable. You will need medications, exercise and strict diet to maintain your health. Diabetes Mellitus has five types. Each type results from insulin interruptions whereas the system is disrupted. The disruption causes chaos within the body’s ability to function. The body cannot act naturally and it takes insulin shots to treat this condition depending on the type.

How would I know that I have this disease called diabetes?
If you go to your doctors on a regular basis, your doctor will monitor your health. If you have family history of diabetes, let your doctor know so he/she can conduct random testing. A glucose test is necessary to find diabetes. Blood lab tests are useful also to spot diabetes.

What you should watch for?
Drinking but not filling your thirst quench. If you feel fatigue often and don’t know, then you should be tested. Diabetes, depending on the type makes a person feels weak, endure pain, lose weight, gain weight, etc. The disease is so confusing to the bodily functions that it doesn’t know the direction to head.

What can I do to help me not to get this disease?
No one has control over disease but you. If you adhere to regular checkups, the doctor can spot the disease at an early stage, which the disease then can be managed. You need to eat right and do excises daily to help maintain your weight, since diabetes takes delight in feeding the disease to the point of death.

What happens to those with diabetes?
Unfortunately, the disease is not partial. The disease targets young and old alike. Once the disease develops it puts the person at risk of blindness.

Some people lose their legs or other limbs resulting from diabetes. Most people with diabetes are at risk of kidney failure. If you already have diabetes then listen to your doctor and follow all instructions. One of the top recommendations to diabetes patients is to consume much fluids. Your body is losing fluids as diabetes drains your bodily organs of its natural elements. You will also need to avoid saturated fat foods and basic sugars. In addition, your doctor will need to test you regularly to control your illness.

You want to take care when diabetes is present since it can lead to meningitis, headaches, tachycardia, dehydration, muscle weakness, pain, and so on. In addition, you may endure blurred vision, sexual dysfunctions, slow healing, and so on. Again, diabetes is a killer; so take care of your health.

I know that if you are a smoker it can be hard to quite. However, if you want to stop you will. You will acquire the willpower to take control. Smoking is not good for anyone. Second hand, smoke has proven to be worse than smoking. For those around you, when you smoke you are hurting them too. Many people smoke for years, which make it difficult to quite. Nevertheless, you have help and hope, especially if you want to quite bad enough.

Avoiding unhealthy living:
Why do people start smoking? Some people start smoking because they think it is something cool and their friends are impressed. They believe it makes them look mature. Unfortunately, many people start smoking early in life. Many people unfortunately end up with bronchitis, breathing problems, cancer, lung disease and so on. As teenagers, we thought it was the cool thing to do, since all of our friends were doing it. We may have picked up the habit watching parents or grandparents smoke.

How to stop smoking:
When you want to stop smoking, there is help. You just have to want to stop. You have go to want to stop before anyone or anybody can help you. You can go to your family doctor and he/she will give you something to help you to stop. On the other hand, maybe you want to do it on your own. Everyone has there own idea for trying to quite smoking. Some think hard candy will help, while others think that chewing gum will help, then some think chewing on something will help. You have to figure out what you want to try to go from there. We all have different idea. Prayer is the ultimate answer. When you pray to improve your life, God will answer your prayers.

How smoking affects you:
No one knows what would happen to you if you don’t quite until the time comes for you to know. You can get cancer in your mouth, in your lungs, you could have a hard time breathing, fast heartbeat, you may have problems walking across the room. Many things could happen to you if you do not quite. Ironically, however, some people smoke for years and nothing happens to them. Yet, throughout the years these people feel sluggish, tired, and often get colds more frequently.

The benefits of stopping smoking:
Just think if you quite smoking you won’t have to worry about the smell in your house, in your car or on your clothes. You won’t have those nasty ash trays to empty or wash out. You won’t have to smell nothing but the air you breathe. If you quite now you will start to get back your self. You will be able to walk across the floor or be able to breathe without using oxygen to help you there are a lot of reason to quite I wish you the best.

Some of the reasons people do not quite smoking are because they believe they will gain weight.

Contrary to your notions, smoking will make you gain weight as you start to age. To improve personal life you must take measures to protect your overall health, which includes maintaining weight, stop smoking and so on. The steps you take will lead you to a healthier future and a successful conclusion.

If you are finding it difficult to beat the habit, we encourage you to learn about the drugs inside cigarettes. If it isn’t enough to scare you into stopping now, then consider your future, living on life-support or oxygen tanks.

Stop Smoking, Please

Posted by Shisuka Thursday, October 29, 2009 0 comments

Stop smoking now means you could live a happy and healthier life. As you already know smoking is bad for everyone, not just the ones that smoke but the ones that breath in the second hand smoke. Second hand, smoke is harder on you then smoking. Forty-five hundred Americans start smoking every year. Why would they want to do this to them self I can’t truly answer you. Because once you get started, you cannot stop. You are hooked and that is not very good for you. Most people start at an early age in life, they are curious or they want to be cool. The biggest problem is most people lack education that helps them to see how smoking causes them to age faster.

The problems smoking can cause:
Smoking can cause many problems when it comes to your health not to think about the expense. Smoking can cause cancer, heart disease, and strokes, increase cholesterol and so on. Your heart is affected, since smoking causes your blood vessels to build up with cholesterol and fat. The results leads to harden of the arteries. Harden arteries mean that the blood flow will not pump fast enough to support the heart’s natural requirements. This starts blood clotting, broken blood vessels etc. It can also cause angina which will make you think that your having a heart attack but your aren’t its just not getting enough blood to the heart to make it pump right. Then it can cause you to have a heart attack, since smoking is a blockage so that there is no blood going to the heart.

Smoking can cause strokes or bronchiolitis. This disease is contagious, which most people do not realize it. The viral infection affects the airway, which affects breathing. The common cause of this contagious disease is smoking or second hand smoke. Smoking promotes bad breath, stained teeth, smelly furniture and clothes. You also get common colds and flu more often. You will start to cough and then you won’t be able to breath they even may put you on oxygen. In addition, smoking is so expensive now days. It is not worth it you will end up regretting it in end. On top of this, you get addicted to the nicotine once you are hooked your hooked.

Bronchiolitis is a common viral infection, which affects the respiratory syncytial. The condition causes inflammation. Once the inflammation accumulates the airway is blocked, since the nicotine consumptions and infections causes the airway to narrow, which the flow of air is obstructed.

Why is nicotine addictive?
You get addicted to the nicotine because of all the chemical put into the tobacco. It’s not so much as the nicotine that makes you sick it’s the chemicals that they put in the tobacco, that cause you to get the disease like lung cancer and heart disease. In addition, what ever you get from smoking. Nicotine or cigarettes have several chemicals incorporated into it to causes addictions, and finally death.

How can I quite smoking?
Once you are hooked, it is going to be hard to quite. You have to decide that you’re going to quite regardless of what it causes, such as weight gain or being on edge.

You have to pull up the will power to do this and stick to it. You can say I will have one now and no more, yet it don’t work that way. You have to find the way that best fits your needs and build the will power. You may want to consult with your doctor who can offer you helpful suggestions on stop smoking.

Moms to Be Say Goodbye to Coffee

Posted by Shisuka Sunday, October 25, 2009 0 comments

U.S. researchers make sure they have strong evidence to indicate that caffeine is harmful to pregnancy. The pregnant women who consume large amounts of caffeine each day in the early months of pregnancy are at risk of miscarriage.

For secure, the future moms should avoid beverages containing caffeine during the first five months of pregnancy, the researchers revealed in research reports published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Actually, this issue has been studied previously, revealed that pregnant women who ate three cups of coffee or 300 mg of caffeine per day had the increasing risk of miscarriage than pregnant women who avoided caffeine.

However, many people criticized that the findings are less accurate, because many women with healthy pregnancies who avoid coffee or caffeine because of morning sickness in the morning.

To find out the actual facts, researchers, assisted by a health care organization, Kaiser Permanente, studied more than 1,000 pregnant mothers. All of these subjects kept continuing their habit of consuming coffee or other caffeinated beverages, in the same portion as they used to drink before pregnancy.

The result is very clear. The researchers found the risk of miscarriage is increased with the increasing number of daily caffeine consumption, whether from coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and other caffeinated drinks, or a combination of all.

Mothers who consumed 200 mg caffeine or more per day had twice the risk of miscarriage greater than those who avoid it at all.

For the purposes of this research, 200 mg of caffeine is equivalent to two of 7.5 oz sized cups of coffee or five of sized 12 oz cans of caffeinated soda per day.

"The future mother should avoid caffeine at least three or four months of their pregnancy", says De-Kun Li, epidemiologist and the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, California.

"If they have to consume caffeine, limit the consumption, at least one cup per day, or switch to decaf."

Li noted that this study does not tell how much caffeine is safe for future mothers. So, he supported pregnant women to take the safety way, considering this is one of the numerous causal factors of miscarriage.

The experts believe that caffeine can interfere with the fetus because the substance can penetrate the placenta, but it can not be digested easily by the system of metabolism in embryo.

Caffeine can also make blood vessels constrict, which eventually causes the blood flow to the placenta decreased.

1.063 of pregnant women were involved in the study that took place between October 1996 to October 1998. Guess it's time to kiss goodbye your coffee cup, at least for a while!

The Most Popular Diet Strategies

Posted by Shisuka Thursday, October 22, 2009 0 comments

Here are the most popular diet strategies; try the ones that fit your life and get ready to watch the pounds drop off.

1. Skip all soda
At roughly 225 calories a pop, a 20-ounce bottle packs nearly the same calories as a chocolate bar but it is far less satisfying. Diet soda is no body bargain, either. For every can you sip daily, your risk of becoming overweight rises by 37 percent. Other studies hint at why: Regular use of artificial sweetener may interfere with the body’s ability to estimate calories you’ve ingested, so you eat beyond what you need.

2. Eat Breakfast, even if you’re not hungry
Most people who slim down manage to find time to fuel up every morning. Research indicates that women who eat breakfast are less likely to overeat at late meals.
3. Use smaller plates and glasses
Diners given smaller dishes serve themselves smaller portions. Eat about 92 percent of what we serve ourselves, regardless of the size of the dish. The next time you order the nachos supreme, put a small portion on your bread plate and try to only eat that. Try packing leftovers before you eat. To avoid snacking and seconds at home, keep food out of your field of vision.
4. Banish trigger foods from your home
Study shows that out of sight is out of mouth, but there’s no need to swear off goodies forever. Depriving yourself of favorite foods could set you up for a pig-out. Indulge during one meal a week or on special occasions, or share a splurge with someone. And if you keep treats in the house, opt for those that come in single-serve portion. Stash pops instead of a cartoon of ice cream, and then have only one.
5. Rate your hunger before deciding to eat
Use a scale of 1 (so hungry you’d eat sand) to 10 (so full you can barely breathe). Dig in at 3, eat slowly, and stop at 7, and you’ll never overeat again. Preventing extreme hunge is as critical to weight loss as walking away from the table before you’re too full. Regularly checking your need for food will help you control how much you end up eating.
6. Dine out less often
We have to try this strategy as we will lose weight and enjoy more nutrient-dense meals without all of the fattening extras. Don’t feel pressured to prepare elaborate dishes; the simpler your meal is to make, the less likely you are to phone your local Chinese place for “help”.
7. Start your meal with soup, salad or fruit
These foods are loaded with water and fiber, which make you feel full. Eating 3 cups of green salad with fat-free dressing cut the number of calories people consumed at a meal by 12 percent, a study from Penn State University at University Park found.
8. Eat your meals with no distractions
Focusing on only your food (no TV, no radio, no phone calls, no nothing) helps you detect internal fullness cues, such as a tightening of the stomach. Eat slowly, concentrate on your food’s taste and texture and check in with yourself after every few bites to see if you are still hungry. By changing the way you eat, you may change how much you eat-and suddenly find your weight loss goal within reach.

Tips to Stop Your Stressing

Posted by Shisuka Tuesday, October 20, 2009 0 comments

Here are the best ways to stop your stressing:

  1. Keep a journal

Jot down your worry, then in a few days or weeks, write down the outcome. What you’ll find: Things usually turn out better than you think they will

  1. Challenge the likelihood of your worry

If your husband is late coming home and you imagine has been hit by bus, think about emotion behind your worry. (You are anxious because you love him and want to keep him around). Once you have identified the emotion at the heart of your worry and allowed yourself to experience it, see if it’s a reasonable worry (hint: probably not). Then let it pass rather than allowing anxiety to ruin your quiet night at home.

  1. Peel an orange

The next time a thought threatens to snowball into a stressfest, grab an orange or grapefruit. Press your nail into your skin, peel it back and smell the citrus scent, focusing on every sensation. “Rather than worry about the future, you can bring yourself into the moment”, Leahy says

  1. Get nostalgic

Visualize your key life events of the past 10 years. You probably can’t recall the worries linked with these experiences, or if you can, you may see the most never happened (e.g. you didn’t trip and fall at your wedding). Tell yourself that current worries will fade from memory, too.

Eating Soy Can Decrease Fertility

Posted by Shisuka Tuesday, October 13, 2009 0 comments

Women who are trying to have baby may need to pay attention to this: Avoid eating too much soy.

According to a study involving humans, a content that is found in soybeans called genistein was able to damage the health of the sperm when they were swimming toward the egg cell (ovum). Even in small doses, if the content is found in the female urinary tract, it is enough to destroy the sperm when it swims into archegonium..
Furthermore, the researchers explained that avoiding soy consumption during woman’s fertile days can help conception period.

Genistein can be found in all products containing soy, for example:
• soy milk
• Different types of vegetarian food
• Pizza

Test Running
The researchers conducted tests on human sperm sample that is placed on a laboratory dish by providing genistein on the sample to be observed.

It was found that chemical content of these soybeans can cause a premature reaction in sperms, forcing the sperms to reach the peak before they are able to fertilize the egg cell. While in reality, this will not happen until the sperms had really been in a woman's body for several hours and had approached the end of their journey toward the egg cell.

Without the presence of genistein around woman’s fallopian tube, the sperm will reach its peak at the time that should be, much closer to the egg cell.

Furthermore, there is a surprising thing about the harmful effects of soy on human health, i.e it is required fewer dose of genistein that can lead to infertility problems in women compared with the dose required to cause the same effect in mice.

Based on these findings, a spokesman of vegetarian societies in the United States says that anyone who is pregnant, should avoid soya products for few days in a month.

Fermented or non-fermented
When reviewing the effects of soy consumption in the body, it is also important to consider the difference between the fermentation products or non-fermentation of soy:

Fermentation products of soy:
• Miso (a traditional Japanese seasoning produced by fermenting rice, barley and/or
soybeans, with salt and the fungus kōjikin (麹菌?), the most typical miso being
made with soy.)
• Ketchup
• Tempe (is well known as a traditional Indonesian food with a high nutritional
value)

Non-fermented product of soybeans:
• Tofu
• soy milk
• soy Hotdog and vegetarian products made from soy or textured vegetable protein
(TVP)
• soy yogurt and soy ice cream
• soy protein

Grapes for Health

Posted by Shisuka Tuesday, October 6, 2009 0 comments

Grape has many health benefits due to chemical contained in it, one of whom is flavonoids. Flavonoid phytochemical compounds that provide color purple in grapes. Flavonoids can prevent LDL oxidation 20 times more powerful than vitamin E, which is known as a natural antioxidant.

World Health Organization classifies the types of wine for lowering unhealthy cholesterol, because it has high fiber in water (soluble fiber), just like as carrots, oranges, and apples.

Grape is really good for those who have problem in sleeping. A study in Italy showed that the Grape is melatonin, a hormone that helps to regulate the human biological time. Melatonin hormone will usually appear at night. Melatonin is also very effective to deal with hypertension. A study conducted by Frank Scheer from Harvard Medical School proved that the man who had intake of melatonin for three weeks will experience a decrease in systolic blood pressure significantly.

Grape is proven to help women in preventing the pain of breast cancer treatment. The doctors at the Institute of Cancer Research show that the antioxidants contained in grapes may protect against radiation fibrosis, the hardening of breast tissue around it due to radiotherapy effect which is extremely painful.

Shiuan Chen, PhD, from the Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope, reported that grape juice successfully suppress the growth of cancer cells by preventing the synthesis of the hormone estrogen that plays a major role in the development of breast cancer.

According to research Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, ptrestilbene content in grapes showed a strong inhibitory power against breast cancer cells. The French researcher also found that in red wine, there is Acutimissin A that can inhibit enzymes causing cancer cells.

In addition to health, grape is believed to maintain the softness or smoothen the skin. Vitamin C and antioxidants can keep skin healthy, because it can fend off free radicals such as pollution and sunlight.

Vitamin C is known as the main body compounds required in many important processes, ranging from the producing of collagen (fibrous protein that forms connective tissue in bones), fat transport, electron transport from various enzymatic reactions, hyper healthy gums, regulating cholesterol levels, and trigger immunity .

In addition, vitamin C is required for wound healing and improve brain function in order to work optimally.

Causes of Snoring

Posted by Shisuka Saturday, October 3, 2009 0 comments

So what truly cause snoring. This may be quite a hard-to-answer question when were talking of only one cause. For in fact, there are many basic contributors that all funnel into the greater source of the problem.

Medically, snoring is defined as a noise caused by vibration from the airways of the respiratory tract that only appears during sleep.

The big question here is that, why, of all state, do we only experience snoring during restful moments?

Well, while we breathe 24/7, the likelihood that one snores during waking hours is very slim. This is due to the factor that only relaxed muscles can result to snoring.

During sleep, all our voluntary muscles are relaxed. The throat, in the same way as the triceps are relaxed is also resting while we sleep. The fact that tissues in the throat are soft, adds to the eventual output of vibrating sounds.

Once this tissue eases out, the passage of air will turn into a narrower passage. As you can see, narrowed passages causes louder noise because there is more room for friction, thus the vibration.

These same factors are also pointed as the reasons why there are differences in the loudness, pitch and tone of snores.

The loudness of snore is affected by the force of the wind that comes through the air passages. Therefore, when the speed of wind is faster, the snore, in general, is louder and more resonant. This answers why babies are capable of snoring too. However, theirs is not typically considered as snoring but only as mild noises created by the respiratory tract. This must never be ignored though since it may be the early sign that something is jammed in your child’s respiration tunnel.

But while it may appear to both genders at any age, men are more often affected by this condition than women and middle-aged men are most likely to be the victims.

This is due to the reason that men have more fleshy necks since theirs are a bit wider than women’s. This factor combined with the speed of air, the result is most likely to be snoring.

Meanwhile, women by nature produce progesterone hormones. This is known to inhibit snoring, thus they are less susceptible towards the irritable sounds. Because this actual hormone helps in relieving a person from this nighttime dilemma, some anti-snoring devices are known to use progesterone as their basic ingredient.

Lifestyle and health factors are also thought of as culprits of snoring. These include:

  • Allergies that cause clogs in the air paths.
  • Drying of the nasal cavities due to several elements including allergy medications.
  • Cold and flu, this explains why some people only experience snoring when they are sick.
  • Excessive intake of alcohol.
  • Thickening of the tissues along the nasal passage. Often, surgeries done on conditions not directly related to snoring can also contribute to the frequency and intensity of the snores.
  • Abnormally large belly or guts.
  • Irritation of the air passages due to overuse of nasal sprays.
  • Abnormal enlargement of the tonsils or the adenoids.
  • Smoking which causes inflammation in the air passages.
  • Swelling of the thyroid gland or goiter.
  • Blockage of the airflow due to large tongue.
  • Medications that initiate relaxation
  • Obesity
  • Inefficient neural control on the nasal membranes.

How to Cure Snoring

Posted by Shisuka 0 comments

The sounds of snoring are possible since there are collapsible parts at the back of our mouth that relaxes when we sleep. Once these are at their relaxed states, the air flow will drive them to flip since they are dangling loose nearest to the throat. These structures will then strike each other as air passes which then cause them to vibrate and create sounds.

Persons bothered by this condition are affected by one of these following causes:

Excess fleshy structure in the throat- With more tissues that collide, it is more likely that snoring can occur. This explains why people snore when they have abnormal tonsils or adenoids. Overweight individuals, on the other hand, have larger necks that narrow the air passage while adding more obstructions due to the presence of excess tissues. Although rare, cysts and tumors can also directly cause snoring.

Some people have extra long uvula and soft palate. These muscles can dangle as a person breathes. These act as flutter valves that impede the normal air passage through the throat.

Obstruction in the nasal passage can also inhibit the movement of air from nose to lungs- If the person has stuffy nose, he is encouraged to breathe extra hard which then creates the vacuum in the throat. The parts that dangle loosely in this section of the respiratory tract are then subject to excessive movements. While a person doesn’t normally snore, the possibility that he would during hay fever season is high. Thus, many reports of snoring only when they have colds.

Problems with the nose construction- The nasal septum, the underlying bone of the nosal bridge that separates one nostril from the other, can also have deformities that may cause obstruction in the air flow.

Mouth breathing can also directly result to snores- Once the jaws drop during our sleep, a space will be created that would allow the tongue to fall back towards the throat. Again, this would create the obstruction that will encourage vibration, thus creating snores.

Having said all these, we then suggest that cures can be initiated when any of these results are directly counter acted.

Say for the excess tissues in the throat, the best possible cure is to remove the tissues that cause the blockage. This can be done through surgeries or through loosing weight.

There are many techniques used to surgically eliminate unwanted tissues. Some actually scrape these tissues while other allow electrically-induced disintegration of such muscles which will then be reabsorbed by the body. As for weight loss, there are also various methods of loosing pounds. Only, the person has to follow a comprehensive exercise or diet plan that will best fit his condition. Surgery is also used when the main cause of snoring is deviated nasal septum. This choice of cure will of course require careful examination and determined decision.

Mouth breathing, on the other hand, is best cured by shifting to nasal breathing. Many exercises had been devised to actualize this as much as there are a number of stop snoring devices that encourage the shift of breathing.

Problems on nasal passage are a bit less complicated to resolve. There are various stop snoring aids that aim to maximize the size of the nostrils through the use of clips and straps to facilitate better breathing.

Tips to Prevent Premature Wrinkles

Posted by Shisuka Tuesday, September 29, 2009 0 comments

Based on definition from Wikipedia, wrinkle is defined as a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of aging processes such as glycation or, temporarily, as the result of prolonged (more than a few minutes) immersion in water. Wrinkling in the skin is caused by habitual facial expressions, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors.[1] With prolonged water exposure, the outer layer of skin starts to absorb water. The skin doesn't expand evenly, causing it to wrinkle. Depletion of water in the body, as occurs with dehydration, can also cause this puckering of the skin.[2] Cortisol causes degradation of skin collagen.[3]

Here are tips from Dr. Dewi Inong Irana, SpKK from Permata Cibubur Hospital, to prevent premature wrinkles:
1. Using night cream routinely. When you want to go out of the house, use the sun block (sun

block) SPF 15 to prevent the effects of exposure to ultraviolet light, UVA and UVB that

produced the sun. Applying sunscreen properly in the face and neck.
2. Eating a balanced diet. Nutrition. balance is important, that is sufficient intake of

carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables and fruits.
3. Healthy lifestyle by eliminating the physical and emotional stress, and pollution

4. Doing exercise for blood circulation, such as walking for 30 minutes every day.
5. Avoiding the use of harmful cosmetics and unnecessary drugs.
6. Be careful of consuming supplements, it should be noted carefully about its composition

Preventing Bone Disease in Healthy Aging

Posted by Shisuka Saturday, September 26, 2009 0 comments

Each day we live, we grow older failing to see that our bones and muscles demand activities to continue strength, endurance and resistance to life’s nasty living demands. Our bones need continued activities through out our lives starting as a child. Until we turn 30, the bones continue to build. After this age, the bones begin to disintegrate. You can cutback this degeneration process by taking care of your bones in youthful days.

How it is achieved:

Bone health is achieved through activities, such as exercise. In addition, you maintain healthy bones by increasing calcium. Supplements are available, which include the FDA marked remedies to help reduce bone loss from natural aging.

Taking calcium is very important during our entire life. Children should drink 2 cups of milk each day and adults 3 cups. Calcium in food is better to take than pills because you get more of it; food sometimes doesn’t have the right amounts in it due to the way it has been processed. Get that calcium in your body at an early age and keep it there. Besides calcium however, your bones demand a mixture of magnesium. You will also need a healthy dose of phosphorous. Vitamin D facilitates calcium to flow through the bloodstream. Free flowing bloods make a healthier you.

To improve bones, we also need to start at an early age getting plenty of vitamin D. As we get older, we have a tendency to stay out of the sun more. Don’t sit in the house all day. Rather try to get outside around noon and get some sun with all those vitamin D rays. Supplements can be used but again the sun is better. Maybe take a walk for 15-20 minutes each day to get the sun.

As we aging into the later years of our life, we have to keep those bones strong. You can benefit from weight bearing works, such as walking. Keeping those bones strong will help you survive falls. Falls is one of the leading reasons of bone breakage or fractures, especially as we grow older.

Unfortunately, adolescents don’t realize the importance of taking care of our bones. As these adolescents pass puberty however, their bones start to decline. Once a person reaches 50, the bones start to deteriorate, which puts you at high risk of fractures, disease and breakage. As the bones weaken, the muscles and joints will also degenerate. Injures then can lead to gouty arthritis, arthritis, osteoporosis and so on.

The high-risks of bone fractures are charted, which include hip fractures being the most common injure amongst the elderly. Hip fractures may sound like a minor ordeal, yet the truth is hip fractures are responsible for some deaths.

Weak bones are avertable even once you are middle age. It’s never to late to repair or mend our bodies.

Staying fit is the key to preventing risks of disease, hip fractures etc since the bones will stay healthy. In view of the fact, you want to consider a daily schedule, which includes activities and exercise. You want to keep those muscles free to move, since the muscles protect the bones. Stretch workouts and exercise will prevent your joints from feeling stiff as well, which joints support the muscles and bones.

When you exercise you, maintain weight. As you start to age, the body fat increases to more than 30%. This is too much added weight for the muscles, joints and bones. Carrying around this kind of weight on the feet, legs, etc will cause problems later. Maintaining your weight will help prevent and lower your risks of heart disease, bone disease, high-blood, high-cholesterol, diabetes and so on.

Too much cholesterol causes many medical problems for one. Cholesterol is something that clogs the arteries in your heart. In addition, cholesterol when out of control could cause massive heart attacks, or series of strokes.

What can I do about my cholesterol?

If your body has too much cholesterol, it isn’t good for you. You have the power within you however to take control. Failing to take control only leads to problems. What kind of foods has cholesterol?

There is cholesterol in all foods in less it has cholesterol free on the package. Some food has more in it then others. Like your cooking oils and grease has a lot of cholesterol in it, some of your bread has cholesterol. Eggs are very high cholesterol foods and so are your butters. You have to read the back of the packages to determine the level of cholesterol.

What can happen to me if my cholesterol is high?

The only way that you can tell if your cholesterol is high is to go to your family doctor and get a blood test. If you go to your family doctor like your suppose to you will have it checked in the blood they draw. However, some of the things that can happen to you if its high is that your arteries will harden. This means your body is building fats and too much cholesterol. The normal or average reading should be 140 or 130 over 200 mg/dl. If you can maintain this level, you will be ok.

If the cholesterol gets out of hand, it hardens the arteries. This means the blood will not flow through to the heart, making it to pump naturally. The heart will pump at unnatural rates, working harder to keep you alive.

High diastolic is high cholesterol that increases risks of heart attacks, since your heart doesn’t get any blood to it due to clotting or breaking of blood vessels, then there is stroke which is when the brain don’t get enough blood due to oxygen decrease to it because of clotting or broken blood vessels. When you lack proper rest, it affects your concentration. To stay health you need proper rest, sustenance and exercise daily.

As a person ages the body goes through senescence, or changes out of the ordinary. The bodily functions start to decline its actions. For that reason we may suffer, sleep disorders, including insomnia.

What you should know:

According to philosophers, theorists, experts, etc women are likely to experience insomnia more so than men. While many citizens find it difficult to fall asleep, some of us suffer insomnia, which is harder on our health. On the other hand, if you sleep too much during wake hours, it will affect your concentration, impair your memory and cause other problems as well, such as sleeping at night. If you get too much sleep, just like insomnia you may incur high blood pressure. Heart disease and strokes are commonly caused from insufficient or oversleeping as well. You should also learn about Sleep Apnea, which is a common sleep disorder. This disorder is harder to detect than any other sleeping ailment. Sleep apnea is often noted by sleeping partners. Doctors can rarely detect the disorder until a sleeping partner comes forward. The disorder causes the person to wake up all through the night gasping for air. During the day hours, the person often drifts into sleep uncontrollably.

The factors behind sleep disorders:

Sleep disorders, which causes interruption of restful relaxation can alter your internal organs. Your patterns and rhythms may change often. Your bodily functions will flip out and feel confused, causing a series of interruptions. You may experience joint and muscle pain, especially at the legs, or you may snore at night. The factors can lead to high risks of illnesses, depression, etc. To avoid such complications you will need to reduce stress and perhaps seek help for your sleep disorder.

What should I avoid?

When you find it difficult to sleep, try staying away from caffeine after 7 p.m. Avoid nicotine and alcohol also before going to sleep. If you find it difficult to drift into sleep, try counting sheep. This will bore your mind watching visual captures of sheep jumping over a fence repetitiously. Some people can fall asleep watching television. If it works for you do it. If you are one of those people who listen to music and television and it starts your adrenaline flowing, then leave it alone. You want to avoid eating or exercise before heading to bed as well. Exercise will boost metabolism. Eating may cause indigestion.

Helpful tips:

If you find it difficult to sleep at night, try adjusting the room temperature, especially if you feel uncomfortable. Turn out the lights so that the room is dark, unless you need a night light due to consistent waking at night due to restroom visits. If you are afraid of the dark, keep in mind that burglars can easily trip in dark areas verses lighted areas. This gives you the advantage of calling for help, since you are aware that someone is in your home. If the lights are on, you are inviting the burglar to stroll freely, tip-toeing through the house without awakening you. This country unfortunately teaches us to run to a lighted area when in danger. Sometimes the light can get you killed.

If you find it difficult to sleep at night, you will likely need medical attention, especially if the problem is on going.
